A New Collaboration for Disability Equity and Inclusion
Piws, an organisation dedicated to improving accessibility and inclusivity for individuals with disabilities, is excited to announce a partnership with Taking Care, a new initiative spearheaded by Jenna Wozniak. Taking Care is a growing online community aimed at elevating personal stories of sibling caregiving, sharing wellness tips, and facilitating Q&A sessions with experts and those with lived experiences.
Jenna Wozniak, a global public health professional, was inspired by her personal journey as a sibling caregiver to her younger sister, Joy, who has Down syndrome. Through her experiences, she recognised the need for greater support and awareness for caregivers, particularly siblings who may eventually take on primary caregiving roles. Taking Care aims to provide resources, knowledge, and self-care strategies to help caregivers navigate these responsibilities while maintaining their well-being.
The collaboration between Piws and Taking Care aligns with Piws’ mission to create a more inclusive world by advocating for accessibility in all aspects of life. By working together, both organisations hope to amplify the voices of sibling caregivers and provide a platform for their stories to be heard.
Jenna’s initiative is currently envisioned as a podcast and YouTube channel, fostering a global online community for caregivers. However, feedback from participants is welcomed to determine the best formats for engagement, such as newsletters or monthly Zoom meet-ups.
