STAKEHOLDER PARENT AND CARER ENGAGEMENT (SPACE) MEETINGS

The SPACE meetings offer a safe, informal space to bring together parents, carers, and experts working and living with disabilities, to help support and improve the lives of families and young people living in Wales.

With the support of Family Fund, Piws have updated the terms of reference. To better accommodate our attendees, meetings will be accessible either face to face at various locations or online via teams.

TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR STAKEHOLDER PARENT & CARER ENGAGEMENT (SPACE) MEETINGS

Who is Invited to Attend?

• Parents of a disabled child
• People with living experience of a disability
• Social care, health, and well-being providers
• Education providers
• Third sector and charity organisations
• Providers offering and seeking solutions

How the Meetings Takes Place?

• Meetings will alternate between two venues: Bangor University and Xplore Discovery in Wrexham.
• Face-to-face attendees can join from 9:30am to network (tea and coffee available).
• Online connection is available from 10am to 11am via Teams – all registered for this meeting are supplied with a team’s invitation.
• A Welsh Language facilitator will be available at Bangor, and this will follow in Wrexham.
• Face-to-face networking will continue from 11am to midday.

What is Discussed?

Current projects, solutions, challenges, funding, and opportunities.

Each month a topic is agreed upon and discussed, with a speaker invited to present.

For example, in June we discussed issues with public transport, with Transport for Wales (TFW)  attending.

Upcoming topics (subject to change):

• September – early intervention for pre-school children – Mencap.
• October – Disability Premium – Increased cost of living for families with a disabled child
• November – Play, physical activity, and sport – The right for all to play
• December – Family and carer breaks – Respite for improving well-being

Who is this Work For?

Minutes are taken and shared with a growing list of influencers and decision-makers to raise the issues discussed.
