Access to reliable and up-to-date information is essential for families in Wales, especially those with disabled children and young people. The All Wales Forum (AWF)—a charity created by parent carers for parent carers—has long championed the rights of families at both local and national levels. Through their Caring Communities of Change project, AWF held in-depth discussions with families across Wales to highlight key areas needing urgent improvement. One of the most pressing issues raised? Better access to accurate information about accessible venues and activities.
Recognising the power of grassroots efforts, AWF was excited to connect with Piws, a community-led organisation focused on improving accessibility across the tourism and hospitality sector in Wales. Piws has already started building a network of Access Ambassadors to collect and share essential accessibility information.
From conversations with families, it’s clear that many already act as informal accessibility champions—checking venues, testing spaces, and sharing their experiences. This collaboration between Piws and the All Wales Forum offers an exciting opportunity to support and grow this important community effort.
“As the Forum, we are always excited to find family-led grassroots projects that we think are going to make a difference in the lives of many in Wales. We can’t wait to see what the collaboration with Piws will bring!” – All Wales Forum
