At PIWS, we are proud to spotlight organisations making strides in accessibility, and Hafan y Môr Caravan Park, located near Pwllheli in North Wales, is a shining example. As one of the largest parks in the Haven group, Hafan y Môr has shown that prioritising inclusivity not only enriches lives but also makes good business sense.

Investing in Accessibility

Under the leadership of Denise Bossons, Hafan y Môr has committed to creating memorable experiences for families of all abilities. Over the last five years, the park has invested an impressive £15 million to enhance its facilities with accessibility at the forefront. These upgrades include:

  • Accessible Accommodation: The park now offers 15 fully accessible holiday homes equipped with ramps, wet rooms, and hoists, set to increase to 25 by 2025.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Widened pathways, accessible changing areas, and hoists in the Splash Away Bay swimming complex.
  • Outdoor Accessibility: Accessible parking bays, ramps to the outdoor cinema, and plans to introduce all-terrain wheelchairs for beach access.
  • Sensory-Friendly Spaces: Features like “Annie’s Garden,” designed for guests with autism or sensory impairments.
  • Comprehensive Training: Staff undergo extensive training, including hidden disability awareness and participation in the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme.

Positive Impacts

This dedication has translated into tangible benefits for both guests and the business:

  • Increased loyalty, with some families visiting up to four times a year.
  • Strong partnerships with organisations such as Family Fund, providing accessible holiday experiences for families with disabled children.
  • Enhanced reputation, evidenced by their 5-star AA Platinum Award for excellence.

Why Inclusivity Matters

Hafan y Môr exemplifies the importance of embracing accessibility in the tourism industry. By addressing the needs of diverse visitors, the park has set a benchmark for inclusivity, proving that such investments foster not only ethical business practices but also financial success.

At PIWS, we are inspired by Hafan y Môr’s mission to “create memories that last a lifetime.” Their efforts align closely with our commitment to fostering inclusive opportunities across Wales, ensuring that every individual feels genuinely welcomed and supported.
