Aberystwyth Cliff Railway
Introduction
The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway accessibility guide helps visitors of all abilities plan their visit to one of Wales’ most iconic attractions. Opened in 1896, this historic funicular railway carries passengers from the seaside promenade to the summit of Constitution Hill, offering incredible views over Cardigan Bay. With recent improvements, the Cliff Railway now offers excellent accessibility features to ensure that everyone can enjoy the journey comfortably and safely.
Accessibility Information
Aberystwyth Cliff Railway has made a strong commitment to inclusion, providing step-free access, wheelchair-friendly carriages, and an accessible lift at the upper station. Visitors with mobility requirements, sensory needs, or assistance animals will find the site welcoming and easy to navigate.
Accessible Parking
There is a small adapted-vehicle car park located to the left of the lower station entrance, reserved for visitors with blue badges. Step-Free and Ramped Access
The lower station offers a gently sloped, paved ramp leading directly to the ticket area and boarding point. Staff are happy to provide assistance if required.
Wheelchair-Friendly Carriages
Each train carriage includes a designated wheelchair compartment with 830 mm-wide doors, allowing easy access for most manual and powered wheelchairs. Staff can assist with safe boarding and exiting.
Lift Access at the Upper Station
At the top of Constitution Hill, a lift provides access to the café, shop, and viewing areas, making it easier for all visitors to enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Assistance Dogs Welcome
The site is guide- and assistance-dog friendly, with water bowls available on request.
