Melin Llynon
Melin llynon is a bakery which offers fresh donuts and chocolates. They have reopened old huts, the mill and created a play area/ animal safari trail for children.
The whole animal trail is suitable for all users. The trail is wheelchair friendly. All around the trail is fenced off so it’s perfectly safe to let your children run free. Before you enter the trail you are given a checklist of animals you see, you may win a prize for completing as best that you can. But not only do they have a trail they also have an area where you can create your own scarecrow or create your own den. It really brings your child’s imagination alive.
On the premise there is an old bakery mill allowing visitors to have a look and climb the inside stairs to take a look inside. They tell you all about the history which is absolutely fantastic. The only thing is if you have a mobility or a safety awareness issue this may be a problem as you do have to go downwards and backwards on the stairs to exit the mill.
There are plenty of picnic tables around the site aswell as areas where you can have a picnic blanket. You are encouraged to bring your own savoury lunches as they only offer chocolate and donuts.
Upon site there are toilets, spacious. With a baby changing toilet too. The toilets are wheelchair friendly with handrails too.
They don’t have an adult changing table.
All staff are friendly, welcoming and understanding for hidden disabilities. They are aware of the access card and Piws lanyards.
Dogs are welcome on site but only by lead. Prices are very reasonable and even offer a concession rate.
Overall I would say my visit to Melin Llynon was a successful outing for us. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. They understood the lanyard and was aware of the access card. One member of staff has experience of hidden disabilities as she was a senco teacher for children/teens in a mainstream school. Staff was able to open the gate for a little boy and his father ( child has autism ) and found going through the shop way overwhelming.
I thank all staff for being so understanding and welcoming to us all.
